Oh, a sampler made completely after my own heart, with the alphabet arranged entirely according to the whim of the girl who made it! (Why shouldn't the Q follow the G and precede the P and then the B?) This makes me completely and totally happy. Someone more knowledgable than I dates it to about 1880s, and deciphered the name of the genius who made it as G.B. Chambers, spelled out on the last line, though there is a bit of thread loss on the G and B.
7″ wide by 5 1/2″ tall and done in a fine wool yarn on a coarse linen fabric. Edges are turned under and hemmed on all 4 sides. Overall very good condition.
