Woman in Blue Bonnet with Dog, 19th Century Folk Watercolor

Regular price $58.00

The latest in the ongoing series of folk art depictions of women and their dogs that I've had in the shop, my very favorite subject. There is a seascape sketched out in pencil in this one (one can just make out a ship, more of a coast line, and a shining sun), but never finished, leaving the woman and her charming, eager dog a bit unsituated. I rather like how the blue-green mass at left arches over them like a giant wave though, or a protective gesture wrapping around them. And then a matching button at her neck, holding her cloak together.

Old fold lines, light scattered stains and a few tears along the left edge of the paper, which appears to be lined laid paper and is more soft than brittle. Paper size: 7" x 7"3/4". Image size (as defined by pencil drawn frame): 4 3/4" x 5 3/4".
