Martha with a New Frock, Hand-colored 1830s B. Brammel Engraving, Philadelphia, in Beautiful Period Gilded Frame

Regular price $145.00

A few months ago I purchased my first B. Brammel hand-colored engraving (Benjamin Bramell, American, 1794-1851), that one picturing "Helen and Her Rose" and it, like this one, in a wonderful period frame. I'm now officially a fan, including for the way in which the prints feel as if centering the interior lives of these young women, here absolutely making me feel how pleased and proud our dear Martha felt in her pretty new frock. And this one certainly seems the perfect thing to have hanging on the wall in a pretty shop selling pretty frocks--or near one's closet! Philadelphia, first quarter 19th century-1830s I believe.  And the gilded frame, with wooden back and original blown glass, is itself is worth the price, a real beauty.

Framed: 7 7/8" x 6 1/2". All in good antique condition, with some general toning and stains to the print, all of a piece with it. Hanging loop at top of frame.
