My new favorite thing. This chair, and the miniature yellow painted art deco vanity also listed today, have me thinking about building a collection of objects incorporating mirrors (and the vision of a house filled with no mirrors but ones of that sort.) And as with that miniature vanity, I find this a transcendent object (I am trying to use that word sparingly, but here I think it is apt)-- there is a magic here that exceeds the thing itself. Photos give a good sense... a line drawing rendered in wire and a reflection, delivered in what feels like one effortless gesture, with the de-silvering and the red painted back of the mirror somehow both underlining its materiality and making it feel all the more ethereal. Perfect.
7 7/8" t x 4 3/4" w (at top) x 3" deep. Mirror 4 1/8" x 2 3/4". Good condition, with de-silvering to the mirror, all to the good. Sound and sits squarely on its feet. C. late 19th century I believe.
