Hand-painted Treen Easter Egg, 1891, with Painter's Palette on Reverse

Regular price $20.00

Not in perfect shape, but I just can’t resist things like this…all that effort someone put into painting it, including pretty fabulous painter’s palette with brushes on the flip side. The interior of the egg was painted too, a lemony cream, and I’d guess it was delivered as an Easter gift with some added treat inside.

There are a couple of hairline cracks on the the palette side that run all the way through the wood and which look to have been carefully repaired some time ago, with no glue visible. I believe it is as a result of that the painting on the exterior does not line up when the threaded egg is closed fully tight; rather, one needs to leave it a bit less than tight for the images to line up, making it a good one to display in an egg cup, say, where one can set it just so!

Approx 2 7/8” l x 1 7/8” in diameter.
