Helen Dose's Sweet Old Sewing Lessons Notebook

Regular price $135.00

It has been a while since I found one of these old sewing lessons notebooks with samples showing various types of seams and stitching mounted or just loose inside. These were the school work of girls, with the lessons covering the most basic of sewing skills--though they seem like quite to accomplishments to most of us now! This one, the work of a young Helen Dose, I believe comes from Pennsylvania, and while it shows its age, it remains a sweet and lovely thing, with at least a few samples inside I'd be very inclined to frame - particularly the two in the first photo, which are both loose (but which look very nice against the lined paper, especially those wavering red thread horizontal lines!) Photos document all pages with writing and samples.

Notebook measures 8 7/16" x 6 3/4". Interior pages are detached from cover but remain bound together. Paper is brittle and some of the samples show general aging/toning. Some are bound to pages by clips, some are loose as shown. 21 pages of writing and/or sewing samples with a few blank pages at end. Marbled covers, both with Helen's name written on them. All pages filled are pictured. A few photos document both sides of a given loose sample.
