There are tintype portraits and then there are tintype portraits, and what a moody stunner this one. Ultra sharp, with every detail on her lace gloves and veil and every flower on her bonnet richly captured, such that she feels completely right there in front of us. (Though she also has a bit of the feeling of living in the spirit world to me!) With the wide ribbon of her bonnet hand-tinted a light blue that really pops, and some subtler color on her bonnet and cheeks. An early one, which feels more akin to a daguerreotype or ambrotype in terms of the quality of the portrait. C. 11860s-70s I believe.
3 1/16" x 2 5/8". Very good condition. Clipped corners as evident, and surely once held in a case, with a bit of very light abrasion in a few spots along the arc where I presume that a mat was laid over here.
