One of two beautiful antique carved santos figures today, this one I am fairly certain representing St. Anthony of Padua, and I think maybe the other is too. Love at first sight with this one, so gentle feeling, beatific, making me feel more serene just by proximity. And I love the way the child he carries--baby Jesus, with ball/globe in hand--sits squarely atop the book (Bible) in his hand as if it were a chair, while reaching for his collar as if looking for some attention. With wonderfully carved lily stalk in the other hand. Just my sort of very folky santos.
8" t x 3" w x 1 1/2" d. Loss to the front of one foot as evident and some cracks to the wood visible at neck and waist, I'd guess mended at some point, as very stable now. Stands steady on his own, though there is a hole in the underside so surely he once stood on a posted base.
