A folky, soulful, dark and moody antique santos painting on tin, with this winged saint feeling as if hovering forever in a sort of liminal space, never fully coming into view. Surely much of this aspect is product of the painting's age and patina, with smoke from candles lit near it darkening the surface over many years--all to the good in my opinion, and I'd light him by candlelight now! I actually think there's a bit of a Rembrandt-esque quality to the painting of his raised hand and sleeve, as if illuminated by divine light.
Framed: 9 x 6 7/8; painting on tin: 7 1/8 x 5 1/8. Good overall antique condition, surface crustiness/darkening as evident. In nice old gold gessoed frame, as found, wired on back for hanging and I think suiting it perfectly.
