Wild Antique Mechanical Action Real Fur Dog Toy on Bellows

Regular price $95.00

Quite an intense looking creature, really as if a bit possessed! I take it for a dog, with papier face/compostion face and real fur covering its body, which was constructed over a wire armature, such that when you squeeze the bellows, it rises on its four legs.  I have not been able to find another quite like it out there, the most unusual component being the handheld bellows--like a squeaker toy with a handle, and indeed it emits a bit of a squeak when squeezed. Perhaps Ives, which made a few wild real fur mechanical animals in the late 19th century; otherwise I'd guess German, from the same period.

10 1/2" t x 6 1/8" l x 4 1/8" d. Works as it should and structurally sound. Some fur loss here and there and it continues to shed a bit so one wants to take a little care handling it.
