Victorian Wallpaper Covered Wood and Board Box, Newspaper Covered Bottom

Regular price $95.00

Early wallpaper boxes are usually far beyond my reach, but I think this one, late 19th c. or so, I believe, is really lovely, and with a wooden lid and base, very sturdy and useful, too. I especially love those fields of tiny black dots surrounding the red and green flowers. There is no date on the newspaper adhered to the bottom, which seems to tell the story of a cash-strapped Caroline trying to make her way through her struggles, with every inch of the story readable.  On. the underside of the lid is very faint pencil writing; all I can really make out is the name Nancy! Lovely and in very good condition, and large enough for storing a fancy hat or all sorts of other things.

10 3/4" in diameter x 6" tall and in very good condition, with minor losses to the paper, as documented. Box itself is structurally very sound and sturdy with no warping or slumping or other issues at all.
