Victorian Maid Posing in Studio Watercolor

Part of what I love about this watercolor is that is feels a bit transgressive--it looks to me, with unframed pictures hung on the wall all around her, as if our maid may have stolen away to an artist's studio to pose for a portrait. Or else our subject was dressed up as in a maid's uniform and is playing the part of a servant taking a break from her duties, which is its own particular thing. Whatever the case, I really like the tensions inherent in the construct, and think it's quite a lovely watercolor too.

12” x10” and in good condition, with a bit of roughness along the top edge and small losses to the two left corners.
