Two Marvelous Old Painted Wooden Folk Art Stacking Toys

Regular price $110.00

Pure joy to find these two this weekend; I love a stacking toy, and more so an old handmade one, better yet a pair, and better still one of them which is really quite ingenious in its construction and the manual dexterity challenges it presents (as well as the creative possibilities for configuration it allows)! It's the one on the right that is the unusual one, with a series of staggered cross bars on the post with correspondingly shaped cutouts at the center of stacking blocks, meaning that one must turn each block back and forth 90 degrees to get it over the post and onto the base. Brilliant. Plus excellent old paint in a terrific palette and a variety of shapes to the blocks, which perfectly complement the squares (and one round) of the other. So good.

Left: 4 3/8" t x 5" wide and deep. Right: 7 3/8" t x 4 1/8" wide and deep. I'd guess the one at right is missing one block at top, and on the other perhaps the red round piece is not original (though the red paint exactly matched the red of the other block, so maybe it came from a third stacker long gone. Anyway, I think perfect just as they are!
