Two Girls and Dog, Sketchbook Drawings by Emma Ackerley, Sing Sing NY, 1870

Regular price $45.00

Lots of foxing and stains all over on this old sketchbook page of drawings done by one Emma Ackerley, 1870, but I love the drawings of these two little girls and dog with tongue hanging out of its mouth so much, there’s no way I could pass it by. The floral wreath around the head of the seated girl, her crossed boots, and the details on her dress just kill me, and then the standing girl in profile looking very much like a queen with crown atop her curly hair and big dangling earrings. And then on the reverse side, a grand house and jungle cat in action below. I know from another drawing from this sketchbook, listed separately, that the drawings date to 1870s and that Emma lived in Sing Sing NY, renamed Ossining in 1901 to separate itself from the notorious prison nearby.

9 5/8" x 7 1/8". Foxing, toning and stains as evident and a small tear at lower left corner.
