I continue to love how folk art doorstops and knick knacks like this napkin or letter holder reflect the particularities of their makers as well--as well as the properties of the paint!--they were made with. I had one other with two Felix the cats in the shop made according to the same design, but its (very wonky) character was radically different than this one, which I especially love for the wonderfully alligatored paint tin the minty green eyes, widely smiling cream lips, and orange next to their toes and tails. With a big red moon behind and black felt added to the underside, making me think someone was pretty proud of it!
4 5/16" w x 4" t x 2 3/4" d and in very good condition, with wear to the green paint on the interior bottom of the holder. C. 1930s-40s I believe.
