A curious one for sure, which I love for its strangeness and its crudeness--one has the sense that its maker chose their three very favorite carved heads and then made this tree-like platform in order to give them a home! Maybe even a sort of family tree? The effect of the overall composition, with two heads leaning in and one sitting atop, is to give a sense that one is being confronted by them--as if one were a little carved figure oneself, wandering in the forest, and having to get past these three in order to proceed! And so they feel a bit like a gate, too, and one can almost hear them chattering away! Ex Ames Gallery/Betty Grossman collection.
6 3/4" t x 4 3/4" w x 1 3/;4" d and in good vintage condition. The left head, on a post, can be removed but stays in just fine. I believe the other heads are on posts too, but may be glued in; I have not tried hard to remove them.
