This one I thought especially perfect for a Sagittarian (like me!), but great, really, for hunters of all sorts, as well as dog lovers, fashionistas, and others who, also like me, can’t resist a 19th century schoolgirl drawing. How to beat this orange coat with blue belt and fantastically huge hat, and especially this wonderful black dog at her side with tongue hanging out? I also really love that she looks both like a young girl and an older woman at the same time (with her pencil-drawn gray hair), and perhaps most of all rather like a queen! Pencil and watercolor of paper, dated 1869 at lower right, and though I haven’t taken out of the frame, there appears to be some fraktur style lettering done in black ink on the reverse, just barely showing through.
Framed: 9 7/8” x 7 3/4”. Sight: 6 7/8” x 4 3/4”. Sold in the old wooden frame I found her in, which I think suits her very well. Very good condition, with a faint old horizontal fold line down the center that I don’t think detracts at all. Strung for hanging, with one loose bumper on the reverse bottom, easily taped back in place.
