SOLD The Young Archeress! Wonderful 19th c. Tintype in Rare Standing Tintype Frame

Regular price $165.00

To me this tintype in beautiful and rare embossed brass tintype frame looks like just about the best Valentine ever. First this lovely young woman in her ribboned hat and dress with flounced plaid skirt, with well worn shoes, locket and brooch, and arm bands. And then this little studio prop of a bow and arrow, which, combined with the slightly trepidatious expression on her face, makes our young woman seem a far cry from Artemis, but completely endearing. Quite rare to find a framed tintype and the standing frame is really a lovely one, perfectly suited to the portrait I think, with a pair of birds drinking from a fountain above, and then what look like hummingbirds, with long needle-like (arrow-like) beaks, all around it. I believe the frame is c. 1860s, perhaps a bit older than the tintype itself, but I am not an expert.

Tintype measures 3 5/8" x 2 5/16". Frame measures 5 1/2" t x 3 1/2" w. All in very good condition. The tintype is easily removed from the frame.
