What I especially like about this old set of little wooden blocks is the subtlety of the embossed letters on them, just a shade lighter than the blocks themselves, and also how much the font used reminds me of antique cut bone letters, which from what I understand were an early took for teaching spelling in school. Here we've got A-Z plus an extra G and D, I assume a nod to GOD (or maybe Good!) The other sides of the blocks are blank--one side ribbed, the others smooth.
In very good condition and in what I assume is their original cardboard box, which measures 6 1/4" x 3 3/4" and has a small hole in one corner of the bottom. The blocks are 7/8" cubed. I have not found another set out there like them. I would guess early 20th century or so but am not entirely sure.
