This set of "Sportette" cards was produced by the Scottish publishing company Valentine & Sons, Ltd., best known for topographical postcards, but which also produced parlor games, novelty cards, and miniature sports sets. I guess the point of this "ice breaker" game was to identify the sport for which the piece of equipment pictured was associated. (And maybe then to go one to play the sport--this card game just breaking the ice!) I really like the overall awkwardness of the photographic images and design of the card themselves, all feeling like a not quite fully resolved game but weird in a good way.
Box 6" X 4 1/8" X 1 1/8". Cards 5 1/2" x 3 1/2". Wear to the box as evident, and a nice little ink line drawing on the key card; cards themselves in good condition. One missing of complete set of 24 (23 here.)
