I love the shadow of the right leg of the hanging hare in this painterly still life on wood, signed at lower right, but I haven't been able to trace the signature. I'm not sure I'm ready for a large scale still life with dead game, but like this little one quite a lot, and I like that the head of the hare rests gently on white cloth, framed by lemons on one side and grapes on the other.
Sold as found in a frame that looks to be lacquered and painted wood and shows a bit of loss around a couple of edges, as pictured: 6. 1/4" x 5 1/8". Painting itself, oil on thin wood panel, measures 5" x 4" and is in very good condition, with one tiny nail hole in the wood at upper right.
