Just as I am obsessed with photos of photos, and photos of portrait paintings (and photos of cut paper silhouettes--see CDV listed today), so am I obsessed with photos of screens. Translations of one medium of representation into another, carrying information forward, but also images grounded in one very specific moment in time, and very much about the framing/context around the screen. And this I think is just a wonderfully evocative image! I first took him for a boxer, shirtless and in dark trunks, and now am pretty sure he is jumping rope. The cheering crowd looks more like a crowd of beachgoers than typical boxing fans, so perhaps he's a strongman performing feats of endurance, or who knows? And it looks as though a film projected rather a television screen--this apparition amid the darkness, on far, forever jumping. This is one I could live with forever and never tire of looking at.
