Just lovely, I could look at early theorem watercolors like this all day, to my eye so lush and radiant and almost electric feeling. Contemporary feeling too; the concentration of color along the hard edges (created using stencils, and blowing paint with a glass straw), as on the rose petals here, always makes me think of the paintings of Roger Brown. I know from the other two I found this one with, clearly by the same maker, that it dates to the late 1840s or so.
10 5/8" x 9 1/16". Good condition, with some light scattered toning spots and one darker stain upper left. Some writing in light graphite on reverse but a bit hard to read.
