There is not a whole lot out there about Renate Scheer Kalkofen (1935-2013) who created this striking print, "Still Life with Flower," (a four-color screen print I believe) in an edition of 5 in 1962, as well as several others I am listing from around the same time. I do know she was a graduate of Tufts University and spent much of her life in the nearby Boston suburb of Belmont, where there are records of her exhibiting from the 1960s and 70s all the way through 2011. And I know from the dealer I purchased the prints from that her house was loaded with great mid-century furniture and objects, amid which this abstract still life would certainly have felt at home.
Paper size 26" x 20". Image size approx 19 7/8"" x 15 3/4". Very good condition, printed on rag paper. The colors in images are fairly close to accurate but photos don't really do the print justice; part of what really makes it is the visceral effect of layered and overlapping forms and colors. Really lovely. Shipped flat.
