There is not a whole lot out there about Renate Scheer Kalkofen (1935-2013) who created this print (a 4 color screen print I believe) in 1962, as well as several others I am listing from around the same time. (I had a few more of Kalkofen's prints in the shop a year or two ago, which sold quickly, so was happy to find a few more this past weekend--I think they're just gorgeous.) I know she was a graduate of Tufts University and spent much of her life in the nearby Boston suburb of Belmont, where there are records of her exhibiting from the 1960s and 70s all the way through 2011. And I know from the dealer I purchased the prints from that her house was loaded with great mid-century furniture and objects, amid which these prints would certainly have felt at home.
Paper size: 22 1/2" x 18 3/8". Very good condition. Titled at lower left and signed at lower right. There is a strip of glued on brown paper tape along the top edge. The colors in images are fairly accurate but photos don't really do the print justice; part of what really makes these prints great is the visceral effect of layered and overlapping of forms and colors. Shipped flat.
