Remember Me, Victorian Hand-blown Glass Sentiment Mug (with Original Rim Imperfection)

Regular price $45.00

I don't do much with glass, but I couldn't resist this handblown mug with "Remember Me" hand-etched across it, feeling close kin--in style, sentiment, and scale, too--to the 19th c. English transferware child's cups I love so much--and which I like to lump into the larger category of love tokens.  Examples of sentiment and souvenir glass like this seem to date all the way from the 1850s through to the early 20th century; the ruby red color is an enamel paint, and the lettering and details done by scraping away. (A folk craft, originating in Eastern Europe I believe and making its way west.) Thick hand-blown glass with an applied handle and large pontil on the underside (which I forgot to document!), and with the decoration remaining in very good condition.

3 1/4" t x 3 5/8" across at handle; 2 1/2" diameter at base.  There is one irregularity to the lip as documented--not a chip, but rather a flaw native to it.
