Red and Blue Calico Sampler of a Antique Quilt, 81 inches Square

Regular price $350.00

I pretty much never buy quilts to sell, in significant part because I am not well equipped to photograph them, but I found this one at an antiques shop in Nashville and just could not walk away from it. (I actually did, once, then went back the next day for it; it kept calling to me! And I would very glad to keep this one for myself...)  I am forever drawn to antique calicos, indigos especially, and this feels to me like quilt that is also as pure a showcase for swatches of a wide array of calico as could be. Arranged in long stripes/bars, with the perfect red and cream print framing them, forming a whole that is more or less exactly square. Entirely sewn by hand, all cotton, light in weight,  19th century I believe.

81" x 81". Very good condition, clean, no odors. There are a couple of spots of wear to the fabrics--one spot of fraying to the red, and wear to a couple of patches--as documented in final three photos. And general wear along the edges, with some loose threads hanging. My photos of the whole quilt show a little white shape near the right corner--actually a star hanging from the ceiling where I photographed it, which I did not notice was  dangling in the frame as I was taking pictures!
