This wonderful antique "Mosaic Work" parquetry set, produced in Germany I believe in the 1850-60s or so, seems likely to be missing just a few pieces--or it may be that I just don't know how to fit them together properly! Whatever the case, it's a beauty of a set, and a very rare one to find, with its original pair of design cards inside, suggesting various forms to be made. I just dumped them all out on the table and started playing, and could go on playing with them well into the new year. I just want shelves upon shelves filled with beautiful sets like this that fuel design thinking and creative play.
Box measures 8 3/4" x 8 3/4" x 1 3/8". Box, blocks and design cards all in very good condition. The lid is tight but slides on and off fine, just requires a bit of finesse.
