Pretty Little Scandanavian Wrapped Birch Bark Box with Painted Flowers

Regular price $30.00

A pretty little Scandinavian birch bark box with leather pull--nice age to it and a few painted flowers on the lid, too. These were traditionally made by members of the Sámi or Saami culture, indigenous Finno-Ugric people inhabiting northern Norway, Sweden, Finland and the Kola Peninsula, historically known in English as Lapps or Laplanders--who used birch bark for everything from boxes to buoys. This one would have been made for the tourist trade, 1st half 20th c I believe.

2 7/8" w x 1 1/2" d x 1 3/4" t not including leather pull. Very good condition.
