I am not sure if Romeo was the name of the squirrel or the name of the carver, but I like it either way, and I do have a sense that this was a familiar squirrel, with whom the carver had a special bond, such that this is a very much a specific portrait! And the maker certainly captured the spirit of a bounding squirrel I'd say, sprig of green in its mouth, and I'd guess the nut already swallowed!
8 1/8" x 5 1/2" x 3/4". Very good condition, varnished surface, with black stained corners, all warmly aged. A little surface wear mostly along right edge, all of a piece with it. Found with an eye hook screwed into one long side, orienting it the wrong way, which I removed--so there is a small hold there. I think I still have the hook and will send it along if so.
