Pennsylvania Rubber Co. Feather Shuttlecocks (True Flight, Remarkable Durability!)

Regular price $28.00

These shuttlecocks, and the cardboard sleeve they came it (which opens at both ends) give me pure delight. First, such a great word is shuttlecock to begin with, and such a great form is the birdie, these with a skirt of white feathers and excellent green trim around the head. Then there is the sleeve, featuring language that amplifies all sorts of associations with the word "shuttlecock", announcing the 'true flight" and "remarkable durability" of these birdies, manufactured by the Pennsylvania Rubber Company. And, having lived for some time very near the Nelson Atkins Museum in Kansas City, where Oldenburg's shuttlecocks graced the giant lawn on either side of the museum, these feel like sculpture to me.

Sleeve measures 6" t x 2 5/8" in diameter. Good condition, as are the shuttlecocks, all with some wear and minor losses, no real matter.  C. 1940s.
