I grew up surrounded by the studio pottery of Solveig Cox--largely functional vessels and objects, but most often populated with figures and animals, which the characters on these bookends remind me a bit of. I quite like how wise and serene these two look, just right for being surrounded by books, with these little wing-like open hands, or open books, on their chests. (And between her turtleneck, his beard, and their little upturned mouths, they also seem a bit like subjects of a vintage SNL spoof on spiritually inclined, super sincere public radio or PBS book club hosts!)
Signed Liz on the back. There is one small chip on the top edge of the woman book end, not visible from the front; otherwise great vintage condition, with green felt on the bottoms. Each measures 7 5/16" t x 5 3/4" w x 2 7/8" d.
