I extricated this charmer from an old frame and mat with hopes of finding it clean and dry, and indeed it is, tempera or watercolor on paper well mounted to a piece of thin cardstock/cardboard. And what a lot of joy painting it clearly brought to RR Strang, who signed their name at lower right-- those exuberantly painted passages of densely packed flowers alone seem like a total celebration. I'm not entirely sure the gender of the older person standing at the front door of the cottage but they appear to be wearing a skirt. And then this marvelous blonde milkmaid carrying pails from the old barn. A very specific seeming portrait of a specific place it seems, with expressive details packed into every inch. A fun one to live with--perhaps to greet one just inside the front door.
17 3/4" x 11 5/8. Watercolor or tempera on paper mounted to lightweight cardboard. All in good condition.
