Quality For Over A Century, Painterly and Evocative Old Fire Tossed Glass Milk Bottle

Regular price $80.00

A little research tells me that this Whiting's Milk bottle dates to the 1940s or so; the Whiting Milk Company, active between 1857 and 1973, was one of New England’s first distributors of milk and dairy products door-to-door, centered on the Boston market. My interest in this bottle, though, has little to do with that history; rather, it is all about this specific melty bottle! Whether tossed into a fire deliberately or having endured an unexpected blaze, I am not sure, but the effects on its materiality were quite marvelous, yielding a object both very painterly and very sculptural. With the "Quality for over a century" red banner seeming exactly the right thing to ground it formally--and to speak to its endurance! Great.

10" t x 4 5/8" w x 3 1/2" d. Very much as is condition, which is what makes it great. A few cracks on one side as documented, but completely stable and sound and probably indestructible!
