Painted Bentwood Pantry Box with Beautiful Old Nail Mends

Regular price $65.00

Another example of mends making something much more special. This is an antique oyster painted pantry box (no lid), to my eye made very beautiful by the nail repairs to the splits along the bottom long ago, which have the effect of calling attention to the sweeping lines of those splits, and giving a sense of gesture and movement to the whole thing. On the flip side are nails marching up the front, but it is the otherwise spare mended side (with beautiful painted surface too) that I love. Nice turned upside down too, and used as a flat surface--atop which a stack of more boxes, or anything, might be displayed.

7 5/8" d x 3 5/8" t.  Looks like this is the second layer of paint--original is showing through especially on the underside. A little separation where the wood laps, but very stable and sound.
