Old Carved Beauty a la Venus de Milo

Regular price $155.00

Pure love for this one, who seems likely to have been carved to inspire lust as well! Surely she was carved after the Venus de Milo, with a socket for one on one side and a smooth stub on the other, though she is missing a drape over her lower half! (There are two holes in her backside, suggesting perhaps she once had one, or was mounted to something, I'm not certain.) The manner in which her exposed legs terminate in points only enhances her grace, though it does thrwart her ability to stand on her own! To me the carving of her hair and face in profile gives her the feel of an early (c.1920s) film star and I might guess that's around when she was carved. Quite elegant leaned lightly against something, or reposing like a sleeping beauty, with the tapering of those legs also making it appear as if she might be flying!

8 5/8" t x 2 3/4" w x 1 1/2" d. Very good condition, with a wonderful softening to her features and a terrific patina.
