I'm always looking for old folk art oil and board landscapes in this manner--honest and completely unfussy--this one depicting a view of the Merimere Reservoir in Meriden Connectcut. I love the salmon pinkish sky and that band of near white on the pale blue water, and also the almost surreal appearance of the trees along the shore, which may be product of some combination of the way they were painted and the effects of time. Feels resolute and also atmospheric and nicely satisfying all the way around.
11 1/8" x 9 5/8". Some wear and aging to the board, including some foxing on the backside and some fraying of the board itself between layers (its holding together but would really benefit in the longer term from being framed.)
