Another wonderful Inuit stone carving of a wonderful creature, this one I believe a seal with front flippers raised, I believe about to plunge into the sea, but looking equally as if it might take flight. Quite unusual portrayal, and just fabulous I think, done by Isah Papialuk (b. 1926), a well known Inuit artist (both for carvings and for prints) from Puvirnituq/Povungnituk in northern Nunavik, northern Quebec, Canada. Signed (incised) and dated on the underside, and with its original authentication tag and sticker.
4" l measured on the square x 2 1/2" w x 2 1/8" t. There is one chip to the front left corner at the base, as documented, which it took me a long time to notice so I don't think significantly detracts. Otherwise a few light surface scuffs/scrratches.
