Pure joy. I am forever searching for early 19th century American folk art watercolors just like this--and what could be better than the rainbow of tail feathers on this rooster??? (Well, the two color combination on that wing is very excellent too!) And look at those marvelous ink drawn claws with pointy spurs! So full of life, and exuberance, and immediacy--and capturing quite the essence of a rooster. A watercolor like this feels to me as if sprung into being fully formed, just perfection.
12" x 12 1/8" framed, under glass, in beautiful birds eye maple frame--period if not original to it. Sight 6 3/8" x 6 1/2".Beautiful condition, rich color (even better in hand). One minor, very old surface flaw to the wood on the frame (a straight, thin diagonal line top right)--I don't think detracting. Great old wood backing and wired for hanging.
