I’m obsessed with early, hand made paper dolls with hand-drawn faces and cut paper costumes, though I only find them rarely—and these two, especially for their faces, and being a couple, are I think my very favorites I’ve found. He most definitely looks like a farmer to me, and what could be better than these very high waisted blue pants in combination with his hat—and hands!? And then she was cut from paper hand-printed with orange-red diamonds, with a burgundy red dress that fits over her head, and a separately cut plaid printed apron folded over top. I’d frame them, I think with her dress laid next to her so as not to lose that fabulous orange print! (And, as a bonus, there’s a third engraved one that came in the set, cut out and mounted to card-stock weight paper, with a fancy green dress.
Hand-drawn woman: 2 7/8” t. Hand-drawn man: 3 1/2” tall, including a bit of wood mounted to the paper at his feet. Engraved paper doll: 3 1/8” t. All in good shape.
