I purchased these unusual oversized dice--zero dots to five as opposed to the usual 1-6--along with the antique parquetry set and early Milton Bradley "Words and Sentences" game from a dealer who herself had purchased them together at auction as part of an early games lot. That, and the fact that I can find no others like them out there, make me think they have similar age to them. I've found some examples of dice numbered 0-5 that are used for teaching math; seems possible that is the case here, but I'm not entirely sure...maybe somehow good for fortune telling!? Whatever the case, they are lovely things to look at and even nicer to throw--with their scale lending an added sense of consequence to a roll! In a handsome veneered wood box with raised interior rim that frames them very nicely and over which the lid fits snugly.
Box measures 3 3/4" x 3 3/4" x 1 7/8. Dice approx 1 7/8" squared. Very good condition. Box shows one stain to lid along one edge and one small surface crack to side of box, both as detailed near end of photos, pretty minor.
