Lovely 19th Century Haudenosaunee (Iroquois) Double Sided Beaded Watch Cover/Pouch with Heart

Regular price $70.00

(First photo a composite showing both sides.) I am fairly certain this is Haudenosaunee (Iroquois) and the manner of the heart and spirals say specifically Seneca to me, mid to late 19th century I believe, and would guess more toward mid than late. It is a small pouch, just over 2 1/2" inches across, which I think (based on the round shape, linen lining, opening, and a few examples I have found) was likely made as a cover for a pocket watch. It was used for sure, with some pretty crude later reinforcement stitching in tan thread atop the red edging along the opening edge on both sides, but the beautifully executed beading remains in pretty much perfect condition, without a single lost bead as far as I can see. Tiny glass beads on red wool, with red silk edging over the wool around the border, and linen lining the interior. I have really come to treasure antique beadwork like this over most anything else, so fine and lovely and special feeling.

2 5/8" in diameter. Beadwork in excellent condition. Later reinforcement stitching along opening edges as evident. A few small holes in the red wool ground visible around the beading, documented with several times magnification. Stable and not especially fragile.
