I find this so beautiful just as an object, and if one were fairly gentle with it, it could be put to use again as an organizer. The exterior is leather with marbled paper border on the face, and more marbled paper over the top of the back. Inside, lovely blue fabric covering divided sections, trimmed in black, each labeled in gold lettering with the month/letters of the alphabet and terminating with "Sundries" at the rear. With "Louis Kirk, July 9, 1860" hand-written in ink on paper adhered to the front. A special feeling thing teeming with a sense of history, and, one imagines, having held a lot of bills that came and went! Found in the Hudson River Valley.
