I purchased this drawing from the great Chuck Auerbach, who had a handful by the same maker, I believe together representing a series of vignettes from the life of the young woman here having her hair brushed. What I love most here is the hairbrush raised mid-air, just before landing, so as to expose all those spiky bristles...and really it looks almost like a weapon! Lovely details throughout, from the striped sleeves of the sitter, leading straight to the book in her hands, to the tiny shoes of the one doing the brushing. And what a both tender and charged thing the act of hair brushing is.
