Late 19th/Very Early 20th Century Pennsylvania Folk Art Penny Rug

Regular price $135.00

I spotted this one spread out under a table at a very good antique show in Pennsylvania and quickly pulled it right up and away with me. I like penny rugs as a thing, but rarely come across one I really love--this one to my eye just right, with strong graphic appeal due to those blacks, but nice soft colors everywhere else, including the hand-dyed cotton ground, which shows some fading/bleeding, all to the good in my opinion.

51" x 24 3/4". Photos give a good sense, including of a few threadbare/fraying spots around the perimeter as well as a few stains, also along edges, and on the reverse. The wool "pennies" are for the most part in  good shape, but some lost stitches around the borders of a few black ones around the perimeter--as pictured. The whole thing is stable and not fragile due to the heavy backing fabric--which shows some all over light staining.
