A sprig of deep blue Juniper berries, so delicately rendered and so pretty. Watercolor on laid (the paper itself watermarked 1827) with the watercolor signed and dated July 26, 1831 in ink at lower left. And with a handwritten poem, suggesting this was made as a token of friendship (as seems most everything was in the 1830s!), on reverse: "Love is like the shadow seems /when the beam first lights the skies...Friendship is the shadow thrown/when the day its moon has past..."
9 7/8" x 7 3/4", excellent condition, bright and clean and crisp.
