Total gorgeousness. I seem to have an insatiable want for color these days, and this beautiful antique fold out dye color sampler for "Camel Dyes" produced by John Campbell Co., Hudson St. NYC, feels like pure sustenance. With the colors applied to strands of cotton thread, stretched taut. Eighty six colors total, all in lovely condition. Yum.
John Campbell Co. was established by its namesake in 1876, who came from England to establish the company, importing British dyes up to the time of his death in 1905. In 1907 the company was incorporated and went on to produce its own American dyes. I believe this color sample card dates to the 1910s-20s.
9 1/16" x 6 1/8" closed. 29 3/4" l open. Very good condition, with some annotations in pen, color bright and bold and much more beautiful in hand.
