Always on the prowl for beautiful wooden boxes, I first grabbed this wooden egg for its beautiful exterior, then was delighted to open it to find many more eggs inside--a total of seven altogether! The exterior egg, stained a rich dark brown, features a faint depiction of a Japanese woman (though her jet black hair is quite pronounced) against a mountainous landscape, while the interior eggs feature hand-drawn banded designs in red and green on unfinished wood. I think this is just a wonderful set, with the tiniest interior egg very tiny indeed! I would guess they date from the 1940s or so.
The exterior egg measures 2 3/4" tall x 1 5/16" wide. The set is in good used vintage condition, with one light spot at the tip of one side of the exterior egg and a crack in one half of the second to smallest egg.
