This is a total charmer of an old school book teaching counting, adding, multiplication, etc, with wonderful graphics throughout: five pears here, seven bee hives there; two bunnies, nine chairs, one excellent hand-held abacus! (That abacus alone sold me on this.) A very good many of them were carefully hand-colored, as are a number of half-page engravings, with the color much better in hand than in my photos. I've had one or two similar to this over the years and always look for them; I feel like this might actually make a child eager to learn basic math, and I'd happy to see any and all of these pages hanging in frames. Published by Ivison, New York, 1862.
6 9/16 x 4 3/8, 72 pg. General wear and age, and loss to exterior of spine, but binding holding well and all pages in good shape. Pages documented are representative--lots of great illustrations/graphics throughout, both hand-colored and uncolored.
