SOLD Inuit Soapstone Figure with Wonderful Face and Inlaid Eyes (Repairs to Feet)

Regular price $125.00

The whites of the eyes on the face of this fellow lend him a wonderful intensity I think, and as he surely once held tools in his hands, likely a harpoon in one, and/or a string with fish, I might guess he was staring wide eyed at his catch. Object-less now, I love the ambiguity of his pose, as if he might be holding up anything with a combination of pride and awe and reverence. It appears that his feet were re-glued to the base at some point, but otherwise he appears in good shape, and great all the way around. Unmarked on the underside but most definitely Inuit, with inlay for the whites of the eyes. I would guess 1960s-70s or so.

6 1/2” t x 3 5/8” w x 3 1/2” d. Glue evident around feet where they attach to base and there looks to be a bit of glue around one knee below the cuff (minor), but otherwise very good condition.
